Virginie Guyot (born December 30, 1976 in Angers ) is a French fighter pilot with the rank of lieutenant colonel in the French Air Force . She was in command of the Patrouille de France in the 2009/2010 season and as such the first woman in the world to command an aerobatic team.

Career

After completing his baccalaureate and classe préparatoire at the Prytanée national militaire , a higher military education institution, Guyot entered the École de l'air , the French air force officers' school, in 1997 . After her promotion, she began training fighter pilots in the Air Force in Tours .

Guyot became a fighter pilot in 2002, three years after Caroline Aigle , the first French female fighter pilot in the French Air Force. Guyot was assigned to the Escadron de reconnaissance 2/33 Savoie and flew the Dassault Mirage F1 .

In her unit, she flew a total of 76 missions in war and crisis regions such as Chad , Tajikistan and Afghanistan . In 2007 she was promoted to squadron leader and in 2009 to major .

Her appointment sparked a lively debate in France. She distanced herself from being a symbol for the women's movement. She prefers to explain that she is "doing her job" and "a little lucky".

After a year as commander of the Patrouille de France (nobody has been in command for more than a year), she completed her training as a general staff officer .

In the summer of 2015, she resigned from active service in the Armée de l'Air . Since then she has been giving lectures on her experiences. On June 25, 2015, she was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor . She is married and has three children.
