Visserweert , formerly also Viss (ch) ersweert, is a hamlet in the community of Echt-Susteren . Until 1803 it was a glory .

history

Visserweert fell under the county of Loon in the Middle Ages and belonged to the church of Elen until the 19th century . The glory Visserweert was a loan from the glory Valkenburg. In 1607 Archduke Albrecht and his wife Isabella of Spain sold the jurisdiction over Visserweert to Jean Curtius. From 1803 the glory Visserweert belonged to the municipality of Elen . When the Netherlands and Belgium were separated in 1839, the areas to the right of the Meuse became part of the Netherlands. Elen came to Belgium, but Visserweert came to the Dutch municipality of Roosteren . Since Roosteren joined Echt-Susteren in 2001 , Visserweert has also belonged to this municipality.
