Vita

Martyrdom of Agricola, fresco at Bologna (16th century)

Agricola was a Christian nobleman in Bologna , Italy . During the persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Diocletian , he was captured because he had converted his slave Vitalis to Christianity and then released him as libertinus . Her death occurred around the year 300 (304?) In the amphitheater, first Vitalis, then Agricola on the cross .

Devotion, iconography and patronage

Her feast day , Sancti Vitale et Agricolae in Arena , is November 4th (on the same day Vitalis of Milan is venerated in Ravenna), also July 17th . November 27 and April 29 are also mentioned for the commemoration day of the transfer of the relics to Nájera in Spain .

Her saints attributes are both with one hand in hand, since Vitalis "was pierced so many times on the cross that he had more wounds than limbs", and Agricola later took the body parts of his companion to pass them on as a relic.
