Vítězslav Lavička (born April 30, 1963 in Pilsen ) is a former Czech football player and current football coach .
Player career
Vítězslav Lavička played for Škoda Pilsen in his youth . At the age of 16, he made the leap into the men's team at the then second division. In early 1983, the midfielder moved to Sparta Prague , from where he went to RH Cheb in 1985 to do his military service, and returned in 1987. In the 1989/90 season he played briefly for Spartak Hradec Králové before returning to Prague .
In 1992 he moved to city rivals FC Bohemians Prague , and from 1994 to 1996 he ended his career with SK Chrudim in the 3rd division. Lavička played a total of 198 games in the 1st Czechoslovak League and scored 26 goals.
Coaching career
1997/98 Vítězslav Lavička took over the SK Chrudim in the 2nd division, but already went to Sparta Prague as an assistant coach during the winter break, where he won four championship titles in a row. In April 2002 Sparta separated from his then coach Jaroslav Hřebík and Lavička became head coach. He was unable to achieve his goal of winning the title and his contract was not extended. He accepted Viktoria Žižkov's offer . The team played for the title for a long time, but only finished third in the end. In early September 2003 he was sacked after just two wins in six games.
In January 2004 he became a coach at Slovan Liberec together with Stanislav Griga . When Griga resigned after the end of the 2004/05 season, Lavička looked after the team alone and won the Czech championship with her in 2005/06. After Slovan Liberec missed participation in the European Cup in 2006/07 Lavička resigned and coached the Czech U21 team in the 2007/08 season.
At the beginning of the 2008/09 season Lavička took over Sparta Prague for the second time after 2002. However, he was released there at the end of September 2008. In early February 2009 he then succeeded the fired John Kosmina at Sydney FC in Australia . He led the team straight to winning the Australian Championship in its first season. After two more seasons, in which Sydney could no longer build on the successes of Lavička's first season, the club announced in February 2012 that Lavička's contract, which expires at the end of the season, will no longer be extended.
