Vitiser disorder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vitiser fault is a striking geological fault in the Lower Austrian part of the Bohemian Massif .

It begins between Schwertberg and Münzbach , crosses the Weinsberg Forest along the St. Georgen am Walde - Rappottenstein line and runs west of Zwettl via Vitis and Karlstein to southern Bohemia into Jemnice in the Czech Republic . After the Diendorf fault , which runs further east, it is the most important fault line in the region.

Along this fault line there was the formation of mylonites, including the slagging and shearing of the adjacent rocks, as well as the formation of hard schists with local quartz deposits.
