The Archdiocese of Zamboanga ( lat. : Archidioecesis Zamboangensis ) is the Philippines located Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Zamboanga City .

history

Cathedral Immaculation Conception in Zamboanga

The Archdiocese of Zamboanga was established on April 10, 1910 by Pope Pius X from ceding territories from the dioceses of Cebu and Jaro as the Diocese of Zamboanga and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Manila as a suffragan . On January 20, 1933, the diocese of Zamboanga gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Cagayan de Oro . The diocese of Zamboanga was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Cebu as a suffragan on April 28, 1934. On June 29, 1951, the diocese of Zamboanga was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro as a suffragan.

The diocese of Zamboanga was on May 19, 1958 by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Quasi mater raised to the archbishopric. On July 31, 1967, the Archdiocese of Zamboanga gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Dipolog . Another assignment of territory took place on December 24, 1979 to establish the Ipil Territorial Prelature .

The Archdiocese of Zamboanga includes the province of Zamboanga del Sur .
