The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Palo ( lat. : Archidioecesis Palensis ) is the Philippines located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Palo . It includes the province of Leyte , with the exception of four parishes in the northern part of the province, which belong to the diocese of Naval , and six parishes in the southeast part of the province of the same name, which belong to the diocese of Maasin .
history
Pope Pius XI founded the diocese of Palo on November 28, 1937 from cession of territory by the diocese of Calbayog and it was subordinated to the archdiocese of Cebu as a suffragan .
With the Apostolic Constitution Ad fidelium on November 15, 1982 it was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan Archdiocese.
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- March 23, 1968 to the diocese of Maasin ;
- November 29, 1988 to the Diocese of Naval .
