Weinsberg Forest

The Weinsberger Wald , also Weinsberger Forst , is a north-west-south-east running ridge in the south-east extension of the Bohemian Forest . It stretches from the northeast of the state of Upper Austria ( Mühlviertel ) to the west of the state of Lower Austria ( Waldviertel ) and carries the largest closed forest area in Austria. In the southeast, the Weinsberg Forest borders the heavily forested but much smaller Ostrong in terms of area .

The Weinsberger Wald was named after the Weinsberg , its highest elevation (1041 m). Geomorphologically it is part of the granite and gneiss plateau , geologically part of the Bohemian Massif . In it arise u. a. the rivers Kamp , Krems and Ysper . The most important localities are Arbesbach and Königswiesen .

For the Upper Austrian spatial unit Freiwald and Weinsberger Wald , the Weinsberger Wald forms a main part.
