List of grape varieties

The Vitovska (Italian also Vitouska ) is a white wine variety , from the Slovenian Karst , called Kras, which is also grown in the Italian province of Friuli-Venezia Giulia , especially in the communities of Sgónico and Duino Aurisina (in the DOC region of Carso ), along the coastal strip to Istria . But the old qualities of Vitovska have also been rediscovered in the Slovenian Karst. Branko & Vasja Cotar are among the top producers. Smaller vineyards are in the Vipava Valley.

The name of the grapevine is of Slovenian origin, where it is sometimes referred to as Vitovska Garganija. The second name should not be misleading, because the shape and size of the grapes have nothing in common with the Veneto Garganega grape. Vitovska is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ).

In the past , this grape variety was mixed with other grapes, but nowadays it is mostly made single- variety.

Synonyms

The grape variety is also known under the following names: Dolcin, Gargania, Ribolla Gialla, Vitouska, Vitovska Garganija, Vitovska Grganja .
