Viva, Viva a FRELIMO

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Viva, viva o FRELIMO was the official national anthem of Mozambique from 1975 to 2002 .

The hymn was composed in 1975 by Justino Sigaulane Chemane .

Textually and thematically it is very reminiscent of Pátria , the hymn of East Timor . The FRELIMO mentioned in the anthem is the party that brought about the independence of the country in 1975 and was the only authorized state party until 1994. The party remained in power after the free parliamentary elections in Mozambique in 1994 . Due to the transition to the multi-party system , however, the same composer composed the new hymn Pátria Amada in 2002 , in which FRELIMO is no longer mentioned.

Portuguese text

Viva, viva a FRELIMO,
Guia do Povo Moçambicano!
Povo heróico qu'arma em punho
O colonialismo derubou.
Todo o Povo unido
Desde o Rovuma até o Maputo,
Luta contra imperialismo
Continua e semper vencerá.
Refrão:
Viva Moçambique!
Viva a Bandeira, simbolo Nacional!
Viva Moçambique!
Que por ti o Povo lutará.
Unido ao mundo inteiro,
Lutando contra a burguesia,
Nossa Pátria será túmulo
Do capitalismo e exploração.
O Povo Moçambicano
De operários e de camponeses,
Engajado no trabalho
A riqueza semper brotará.
Refrão

German translation

Long live FRELIMO,
Leader of the Mozambican people,
of the heroic people who, rifle in hand,
overcame colonialism.
The whole people united
from Rovuma to Maputo ,
fights against imperialism
and will continue to do so and win.

Choir:

Long live Mozambique!
Long live our flag, symbol of the nation!
Long live Mozambique!
The people will fight for you.
Together with the whole world
fighting against the bourgeoisie ,
our country becomes the grave of
Capitalism and exploitation.
The Mozambican people,
Workers and peasants,
working
will always create wealth.
