Viviane Forrester
Viviane Forrester (born September 29, 1925 in Paris as Viviane Dreyfus ; † April 30, 2013 ibid) was a French writer , essayist and literary critic .
life and work
Forrester worked in Paris as a literary critic for Le Monde , Le Nouvel Observateur and La Quinzaine littéraire . As an art and literary critic, she has emerged primarily with works on Vincent van Gogh and Virginia Woolf .
The author became internationally known for her first political book The Terror of Economics (L'horreur économique) (1996), which has quickly become a bestseller and has so far been translated into 27 languages. In it, she described grievances in the banlieues of the big cities and pleaded for a turn away from neoliberalism . She asked fundamental questions about the meaning of terms that, in her opinion, are used all the time but are generally not questioned, e.g. B. on the meaning of the term competitiveness . She complained that commercial enterprises receive state services to create jobs without having to provide anything in return in the form of job guarantees.
