Vlatko Kucan

Vlatko Kucan (* 1963 in Sarajevo ) is a jazz saxophonist and clarinetist from Bosnia-Herzegovina .

After graduating from the Ulrichsgymnatium Norden (1984), Kucan studied saxophone at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and then played in various groups. His partners included u. a. Carla Bley , Anthony Braxton , Derek Bailey , Barry Guy , Marion Brown and Tomasz Stańko . Since 1990 he has been head of the Lesart ensemble and managing director of the audio book publisher voices editions . In 1998 he founded the record label TrueMuze with Rajesh Mehta and Peter Niklas Wilson . With Michael Danner , Bill Elgart and Jay Oliver he founded the Vlatko Kucan Quartet , which existed until Oliver's death in 1993. As a composer of drama music he worked a. a. with Tom Waits , Bob Wilson , Lester Bowie and Giora Feidman .

In 1982 Hildegard Peters, who taught at his school, portrayed him .
