Jay Oliver

Jay Oliver (* 1942 in Douglas (Arizona) ; † August 3, 1993 in Berlin ) was an American double bass player and composer of modern jazz .

Oliver studied music and political science. In New York City he worked with Steve Lacy and with Frank Lowe . In 1973 he came to Europe, where he initially lived in Switzerland and Sweden. He has performed at international festivals with the groups of Donald Garrett and Jimmy Lyons . He formed a bass trio with Klaus Koch and Buschi Niebergall . In 1983 he settled in Berlin. He played with Rüdiger Carl and Alexander von Schlippenbach in various formations (including COWWS and "Swing Dance Band") and toured with Keith Tippett . In 1989 he played in the Peter Brötzmann / Manfred Schoof Quartet. He formed a trio with Jacques Nobili and Willi Kellers .
