Vogelgesang is a part of the municipality Elsnig in the district of North Saxony in Saxony .

Vogelgesang is located directly on the federal highway 182 in the Torgau - Dommitzsch section . Elsnig is to the southeast and the forest settlement is almost adjacent to the south. The corridor Vogelsang lies both in the Elbaue and west on the sandy plain gen former WASAG -Waldgelände. The area of the Elbe consists of alluvial soils. Vogelsang had a stop on the disused Pratau – Torgau railway line .
history
In 1575 there was a documentary report about an individual property at the Vogelgesang patch. In 1648 it was a manor with 263 hectares of land. Also lived in the hamlet in 1747 and 1845 6 41 cottagers . In 1424 the spot was called Vogelsang and from 1500 as Vogelgesang . Since 1974 the place belongs to Elsnig.
Around 1930, WASAG was built into the forest to protect the army and other units with ammunition for the planned war. After the war, dismantling began on the WASAG site , but it was never completed. The NVA the GDR used the rest of the equipment. Today the area is a restricted area as an interim storage facility for old ammunition.
