The Voigt School in Flensburg at Schloßstraße 28 is one of the city's cultural monuments .

background

The school was built in 1881/82, presumably according to plans by the city architect Otto Fielitz . The school building shows visual similarities to other school buildings he built in the city. It is three-story, has a high basement plinth. It was mainly built from yellow bricks. Red stones form decorative frames and decorative lines. In addition to this main building directly on the street, the existing old buildings ( location ) behind it with modern extensions (apparently a sports hall ) as well as the school yard there belong to the school grounds. However, the directly neighboring Collundtspark does not belong to the school grounds . In the school building there were originally classrooms, specialist and special rooms as well as the rector's and teachers' rooms.

The school, which was on the edge of the parish of St. Marien , initially served as St. Marien Boys' School I. Then it served as the “4th Realschule “of the city. During this time the school was named Voigtschule, after the third rector of the Realschule Christian Friedrich Voigt (* 1864; † 1938). In the year of his death, Voigt, who had also worked as a local researcher, was honored not only by naming his former school, but also by naming Christian-Friedrich-Voigt-Platz on Friesische Strasse . The school name, immortalized in iron letters on the front of the school, has been preserved since then.

The building was used by the Paulus Paulsen School around the year 2000 . The special school in question moved to Schulze-Delitzsch-Straße 2, where it is still located today. At the same time, it was also used for courses at the Flensburg Adult Education Center. Since the end of 2015, at the height of the refugee crisis , the building has been used as refugee accommodation with a capacity of eighty people. At the end of 2016, the refugee accommodation was closed due to the decline in the number of refugees. The building was then initially owned by the Flensburg Chamber of Crafts . In November 2018 it became public that investors are planning to convert the Voigt School into a residential building with 24 small apartments.
