The Voima is a Finnish icebreaker with home port Helsinki , in 1952 at the Wärtsilä - shipyard was built in Helsinki.

Technology and equipment

The icebreaker put into service in 1954 has been significantly improved compared to ships of this type built earlier. Fore and aft it was equipped with twin screws. These should significantly reduce the friction of the ice on the hull through the water flowing along the side walls. The Voima has heeling tanks with high-performance pumps that can circulate 300 cubic meters of water in 45 seconds so that it can free itself from the pack ice.

From 1977 to 1978 the Voima was modernized and equipped with a new machine system. In February 1994 the ship was badly damaged by a collision with the cargo ship Alita sailing under the German flag and almost completely lost.
