Volker Berresheim
Volker Berresheim (born March 27, 1956 in Siegen ) is a German diplomat who was ambassador to Togo between 2014 and 2015 .
Life
Berresheim began after graduating from high school in 1974 in Trier , a study of business administration and the political economy at the University of Saarland , as he 1977 business graduate graduated. Shortly afterwards he started his own business and between 1977 and 1981 was the managing partner of a start-up company in the technology sector. He also worked as a research assistant and lecturer at Saarland University. In 1979 he also completed his studies in economics with a degree in economics and in 1981 also completed postgraduate studies in European integration .
In 1981, Berresheim began the preparatory service for the higher foreign service and after graduating from 1983 to 1985 initially worked as a consultant for Indochina in the Southeast Asia Department of the Foreign Office in Bonn , before he was political consultant and consul at the embassy in Indonesia from 1985 to 1987 was. During this time he graduated in 1985 at the University of Saarland his promotion to Dr. rer. pole. with the dissertation 35 Years of Indochina Policy of the Federal Republic of Germany . Subsequently, he was 1987 to 1990 Deputy Head of the Department of Information Technology in the Foreign Ministry and then from 1990 to 1992 charge d'affaires ad interim at the Embassy in Benin .
Following Berresheim functioned between 1992 and 1995 as Counselor and Head of the Political Section of the Embassy in France . In 1995 he returned to the headquarters of the Foreign Office, initially from 1995 to 1997 as coordinator of the working group for the coordination of German policy on the eastward expansion of the European Union and then between 1997 and 2000 as deputy head of the working group for reform states in Eastern Europe. From 2000 to 2003 he was head of economic services at the embassy in Israel and between 2003 and 2007 he was head of economic services and European representative at the embassy in Poland , before taking part in a staff exchange with Siemens AG between 2007 and 2008 .
In 2008 Berresheim returned to the headquarters of the Federal Foreign Office and until 2014 was both head of the department for foreign trade promotion in countries and regions and head of the foreign trade advisory team. In 2014 he worked for some time as charge officer ad interim at the embassy in Eritrea .
In November 2014, Berresheim succeeded Joseph Weiß as the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Togo . He remained in this post until he was replaced by Christoph Sander in August 2015. In 2017, Berresheim worked as the German ambassador in Djibouti .
