Volker Depkat

Volker Depkat (born December 26, 1965 in El Paso (Texas) ) is a German historian .

Depkat studied history, English and German for teaching at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , at the University of Oregon , Eugene and at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . In 1992 he passed the first state examination in history and English in Göttingen, and in 1996 he started working on “Images of America in Political Discourses. German Journals 1789–1830 ”. The dissertation was awarded the sponsorship prize of the German-American Academic Council and the city of Krefeld. From 1997 to 2003 he was a research assistant at the Chair for General History of the Modern Age at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald. In 2003 he completed his habilitation at the University of Greifswald with a study on “Turns of Life and Turns of Times. German politicians and the experiences of the 20th century ”. In 2004/2005 he was senior research assistant at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at the Free University of Berlin . In 2005 he was appointed to a university professor for American studies at the University of Regensburg .
