Volker Haas

Volker Haas (* 1963 ) is a German lawyer , criminal defense attorney and university professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Life

Haas studied philosophy and law , from 1984 to 1987 first at the University of Saarbrücken , later from 1987 to 1992 at the University of Tübingen , where he passed his first state examination in July 1992. In 1997 he passed his second state examination in Göttingen . He then returned to Tübingen to work as a research assistant at the chair of Hans-Ludwig Günther , where he had previously worked as a research assistant. Under Günther, he also received his doctorate in 2001. jur. After receiving his doctorate, he worked as Günther's research assistant until his habilitation. With his habilitation in 2006, Haas acquired the license to teach the subjects of criminal law, criminal procedural law, criminal law history and legal philosophy.

This was followed by substitute professorships at the universities of Marburg and Heidelberg . In 2010 he followed a call from Heidelberg University , where he was appointed full professor in 2011 and holds the chair for criminal law and criminal procedural law at the Institute for German, European and international criminal law and criminal procedural law.

Haas' research focuses in particular on the legal historical and legal philosophical foundations of criminal law and criminal procedure law , the dogmatics of criminal law, its interdisciplinary references and other legal philosophical and legal theoretical questions. He is a member of the advisory board of Jura Studium & Examen (JSE).

In addition to his work as a university lecturer , Haas also works as a criminal defense attorney.
