Volker Krumm

Volker Krumm (born December 23, 1934 in Heidelberg ; † January 11, 2020 ) was a German-Austrian pedagogue and educational scientist . From 1981 until his retirement in 2001 he taught at the University of Salzburg . His main research areas included a. the cooperation between parents and teachers and the abuse of power by teachers.

Career

Krumm first studied economics, educational science and German literature at the University of Mannheim and then became a research assistant at the Institute for Educational Science there. With his research work on the topic of "Future ideas of commercial college graduates" he received his doctorate in 1965 at the University of Mannheim. phil.

After legal clerkship, state examination and various teaching activities, he was appointed professor at the Institute for General Educational Science at the University of Düsseldorf in 1972 . In 1981 he was appointed to the Institute for General Educational Science at the University of Salzburg . There he headed the department for educational research and educational advice until his retirement. In 1994, Krumm was visiting professor at the National Taipei University in Taiwan . In 2001 he was visiting professor at the East China Normal University in Shanghai in the People's Republic of China . In addition to his scientific work, he has campaigned for a “bicycle-friendly Salzburg”, and he has also been publicly committed to humane treatment of migrants in the Salzburg prison (the so-called “Schanzlalm”).

Since 1962 he was with the psychotherapist Brunhild Krumm, geb. Keller, married.

His research topics include the abuse of power by teachers. His 2003 study “How Teachers Discipline Students. The Leibniz Institute for Educational Research and Educational Information in Frankfurt am Main summarizes the “ Black Pedagogy ” as follows: “Teachers can also disrupt teaching and educational processes in schools, especially if they counter certain student characteristics and unexpected behavior with aversive measures .
