Volker Schmidt (born November 22, 1957 in Dresden ) is a former German football player who played in the GDR major league .

Life

Schmidt played at Dynamo Dresden from his youth , before moving to BSG Wismut Aue in 1984 , where he held the post of libero . The high point of his career were several UEFA Cup matches in 1987. He ended his professional career in 1994 in Aue with the team now called FC Erzgebirge Aue .

He is married to the former swimmer and Olympic champion Ulrike Richter .
