Volker Stocké

Volker Stocké (born June 26, 1966 in Frankenthal ; † August 22, 2017 in Kassel ) was a German sociologist and university professor.

Life

From 1987 Stocké studied sociology , political science , science and public law at the University of Mannheim . In 1994 he obtained a diploma in sociology in Mannheim. He then worked as a research assistant initially for Franz Urban Pappi , and from 1995 for Hartmut Esser at their respective Mannheim chair. In 2001 Stocké received his doctorate under Esser’s supervision with a thesis on framing , which was awarded the Lorenz von Stein Prize of the Lorenz von Stein Society. phil. Under Esser, he was also involved in various research projects. From 2003 Stocké worked as a university assistant at the University of Mannheim until he completed his habilitation in May 2009 and received the Venia legendi for the subject sociology.

In 2009 he was appointed to the professorship for sociology with a focus on longitudinal educational research at the University of Bamberg . He held this chair until he moved to the University of Kassel in March 2012 to the chair for methods of empirical social research, which he held until his death. From April 2012 he was also a member of the board of directors of the International Center for Higher Education Research Kassel and from October 2014 founding member and managing director of the competence center for empirical research methods at the University of Kassel.
