The Aegidien Church was first mentioned as a parish church in 1380, and in 1535 the fortified church took on its present form. Since it was founded by St. Lorenz in Hof in the Bamberg diocese , Triebel belonged to the so-called dispute parishes for centuries . The church received a pulpit altar in 1731 .

The last service was celebrated in 1975; the church was dilapidated. The proximity to the German-German border was one of the reasons for the decision-makers in the GDR to abandon the church to decay. On July 5, 1988, the church tower collapsed.

After the fall of the Wall , the first security measures took place, and in 2008 a support association was founded to rebuild the church. Since then, the repair and renovation has been continuously worked on from year to year, completion is planned for 2018. The church is a cultural monument .

The church is the starting point of the “hiking trail to places of fate”. With its stations, the hiking trail is reminiscent of the former German-German border including the desert areas of Hasenreuth , Troschenreuth and Ebersberg .
