Volker Wienert

Volker Wienert (born August 24, 1937 in Cologne ) is a German doctor and scientist. From 1986 to 2004 he held the chair for dermatological phlebology at the University Hospital Aachen and is the author of numerous non-fiction books in the fields of dermatology , phlebology and proctology .

Life

Wienert graduated from high school in Duisburg in 1958 and began studying medicine in Münster the following year . He passed the state examination at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn and received his doctorate in 1966. In the following year, Wienert took up an assistant position under Walter Gahlen at the dermatological clinic of the University Clinic in Aachen. In 1976 he received the license to teach dermatology. The title of his habilitation thesis was The Influence of the Anal Sphincter Muscles in Humans by Pharmaceuticals, Reflex Stimulation and Electrical Stimulation and their clinical applicability . In 1979 Weinert was appointed associate professor. In 1986 he received a C3 professorship for dermatological phlebology at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH Aachen). Until then, this was the only chair for this subject in Europe. Professor Wienert stayed at the RWTH Aachen Dermatology Clinic until his retirement.

Together with the medical technician Vladimir Blazek , who also works at RWTH Aachen University, Volker Wienert further developed the light reflection rheography, first described in the 1930s, for the diagnosis and follow-up of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) , thus making it possible to use it on a routine basis.

From 1993 to 1995 Wienert was President of the German Society for Coloproctology .
