Erwin Braun (industrialist)

Erwin Braun (born August 29, 1921 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 27, 1992 in Sarnen ) was a German entrepreneur. He was the eldest son of Max Braun (1890–1951), the founder of the Braun company .

Life

Erwin Braun was born as the son of Max Braun and Mathilde Braun. Göttelmann born. He is the older brother of Artur Braun (1925-2013) and the father of Karl Walter and Werner Braun.

From 1932 Braun attended the Liebig secondary school in Frankfurt am Main, where he graduated from high school in 1939. Then he was a soldier in the tank intelligence force , most recently a lieutenant and teacher for basic physics and communications technology at the Army and Air Force communications school in Halle (Saale) . In January 1945 he married Erika Ludwig and returned to Frankfurt from the war on May 25, 1945, where he studied business administration at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University from 1946 to 1949.

After the sudden death of his father, Erwin Braun took over management of the company together with his four years younger brother Artur Braun. Together with their employees, both created a global company with 5700 employees and a turnover of DM 245 million. In 1967 they sold the company for 200 million DM to the US company The Gillette Company , which was taken over in 2005 by the US group Procter & Gamble .

Erwin Braun retired to his farm near Lucerne and supported the development of medical technology. He is the founder of the “Dr. med. hc Erwin Braun Foundation, Basel ”, which u. a. awards a foundation prize, the "Erwin-Braun Prize", every three years.

In 1969 Erwin Braun received honorary membership in the Association of German Industrial Designers (VDID) for "his services to industrial design".

Technical developments

Braun occupied himself with the further development of oxygen therapy for slight excess pressure. In 1986 a mobile pressure chamber was implemented. In addition, he dealt with modifications to infrared emitters used for heat treatment.

Enterprises of the sons

Erwin Braun's son Werner Braun looked after his father's scientific estate in Switzerland. In Müllheim , Baden , Brauns Hydrosun Medizintechnik produces devices for oxygen and heat therapy based on the father's developments. He also employs over 100 people in Elfo AG, founded in 1972 in Sachseln in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland , which initially produced the shaving foils for Braun razors and has been active in the core area of ​​plastic injection molding as well as tool and mold construction since 1976.

Erwin Braun's son Karl-Walter Braun runs Maxon Motor AG at the same location , which was founded in 1961 by the two brothers Erwin and Artur Braun under the name Interelectric Sachseln AG .
