Ralph from Egidy

Christoph Ralph von Egidy (born August 20, 1867 in Leipzig ; † May 24, 1955 in Sögeln ) was a German major general .

Life

He came from the noble family von Egidy and was the second eldest son of the Saxon captain Christoph Ralph von Egidy (1841-1870) and Klara, née von Crayen.

Egidy occurred on April 2, 1888 as a cadet in the first body-Grenadier Regiment. 100 of the Saxon army and was there on November 22 in 1888 Cadet appointed. This was followed on September 7, 1889 and on February 25, 1897 promotions to secondary and prime lieutenant . One day after his promotion to captain , Egidy took over as chief of a company in his regiment. With simultaneous promotion to major on October 1, 1912, he was transferred to the regimental staff.

With the outbreak of World War I and the mobilization, Egidy was appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion of the Reserve Grenadier Regiment No. 100 and his unit was transferred to the Western Front. There he was deployed during the Battle of the Marne and from mid-November 1914 acted as a military companion to Prince Ernst Heinrich of Saxony . From September 8, 1916, he led the Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 101 and six months later became the commander of the Reserve Grenadier Regiment No. 100. During the Third Battle of Flanders he was able to prove himself several times and on October 13, 1917, Egidy became promoted to lieutenant colonel. During the Meuse-Argonne offensive , Egidy was wounded on October 12, 1918 and experienced the end of the war in the hospital .

After his recovery he was first put up for disposition, from January 26, 1919 he was appointed as a staff officer at Landwehr District Command I in Dresden and promoted to colonel on November 28, 1919 . Egidy finally retired on January 31, 1920.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the World War, he was given the character of Major General on the so-called Tannenberg Day , August 27, 1939 .
