Volker Zimmermann

Volker Zimmermann (* 1968 in Düsseldorf ) is a German historian .

Life

From 1988 to 1994 Zimmermann studied modern history, Eastern European history and political science at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . After several years of activity as a freelance journalist , he received his doctorate in 1998 from Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf with a dissertation on "The Sudeten Germans in the Nazi State". From 1998 to 2000 he worked as a freelancer at the Dusseldorf Memorial, and then until 2006 as a research assistant / assistant at the Institute for Culture and History of Germans in Eastern Europe at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. In 2002 he was awarded the Heinz Maier Leibnitz Prize . In 2006 he completed his habilitation at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf with a habilitation thesis on the relations between the Soviet Zone / GDR and Czechoslovakia (1945–1969). He then taught as a private lecturer for modern and contemporary and Eastern European history at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (2007-2014), from 2006 to 2010 as DAAD visiting professor at the chair for German and Austrian studies at the Institute for International Studies at Charles University in Prague . He has been a research assistant at the Collegium Carolinum since 2010 and an adjunct professor at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf since 2014.
