Volkmar Deile

Volkmar Deile (born January 25, 1943 in Lübeck ; † April 2, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German Protestant theologian .

After graduating from high school in 1963, Deile studied Protestant theology and took his first exam in 1970 and his second exam in 1974. From 1975 to 1984 he was managing director of Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste and as such one of the organizers of the peace demonstration in Bonn's Hofgarten in 1981 . He then conducted research at the research facility of the Evangelical Study Community (FEST) on the peace discussion in Great Britain. As a member of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) from 1987 to 1990, he prepared the First European Ecumenical Assembly in 1989 in Basel.

From 1990 to 1999 he worked as General Secretary of Amnesty International , Section Germany. During this time he was instrumental in founding the Human Rights Forum . During his term of office, the human rights award of the German section of Amnesty International was awarded for the first time - in 1998 in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt.

He was also a member of the presidia of the German Evangelical Church Congress and the Ecumenical Church Congress 2003, for which he was also responsible as a full-time staff member.

Since February 2002 he was retired as pastor of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .
