Hanau Nord is a train station on the Friedberg – Hanau railway in Hanau .

history

Hanau North Station was opened on December 1, 1879 together with the Hanau – Heldenbergen-Windecken (today: Nidderau ) section of the Friedberg – Hanau railway line . Since the September 15, 1881 (freight) and 15 October 1881 (passenger) there are continuous connections from Hanau Central to the station Friedberg .

From June 11, 2001 to the end of 2005, the route was served by railcars ( GTW 2/6 ) of the Butzbach-Licher Eisenbahn (BLE). At the end of 2005, the parent company, Hessische Landesbahn GmbH (HLB) , took over operations between Friedberg and Hanau. With the timetable change on December 11, 2011, the route should be integrated into the network of the Mittelhessen-Express . However, due to licensing problems for the new railcars, HLB diesel railcars served the station until 2012 .

The station building was sold to a real estate consortium in 2007 - along with a further 489 train stations. It was no longer usable for passengers for a long time. A shopping center called Kinzigbogen was built in 2012 on the former 20 hectare area of the neighboring track construction yard .

Functions that made it more important in the past are no longer available:

  • here were the sidings to the major rail yard Hanau , and the US base airfield Langendiebach served. The former still exists in a reduced form, the latter has since been cleared by the military.
  • Until 1931, Hanau Nord was a transfer station for the Hanauer Kleinbahn , to which there was also a switch connection , over which goods traffic ran.
  • Until 1928 he was also hit by the Hanau tram .

business

Hanau Nord station is now served by regional trains on the Hanau – Friedberg (–Gießen) route. The operator DB Regio Mitte uses Bombardier Talent 2 railcars .
