In 1874 the institute became a Sparkasse zu Borgloh. Today's Volksbank eG Bad Laer-Borgloh-Hilter-Melle is the oldest member bank of the Genossenschaftsverband Weser-Ems e. V.
When the Sparkasse Supervision in Berlin became aware of the credit institute in Borgloh in the 1930s and discovered that it was not part of the Sparkassenverbund, they forced the credit institute to rename itself, and the savings and loan fund was created.
Mergers
Volksbank Borgloh eG merged on January 1, 1999 with Raiffeisenbank eG Melle, which started its business operations in 1922. In 1974 this merged with the Raiffeisenkasse Neuenkirchen. Volksbank Melle-Borgloh eG merged with Volksbank Hilter-Bad Laer eG in 2002 in order to be more efficient for members and customers.
Volksbank Hilter-Bad Laer eG emerged from a merger in 1993. The former Volksbank Hilter eG was founded in 1890 as a savings and loan fund. The former Volksbank Bad Laer eG was founded in Laer in 1894 as a savings and loan fund.

The Volksbank is supported as a cooperative bank by its 12,780 members. The main purpose of the cooperative is the economic promotion and support of its members (§ 2 of the statutes). The annual meeting of representatives performs important tasks regulated in the statutes. Members receive information about the business policy and the development of the bank annually in the regional member forums and in regular member publications. A share of Volksbank eG Bad Laer-Borgloh-Hilter-Melle is € 50.00. Since May 2017, Volksbank eG has been offering members who use four or more products from the bank or the network partners to subscribe for a total of up to 20 shares at € 50.00 each.
