history
Founded in 1898
The Volksbank Gescher goes back to the founding meeting of the Gescherer Savings and Loan Association eGmuH held on January 23, 1898. The chairman of the supervisory board was L. Meyer, vicar and president of Haus Hall , the first rendant was Bernhard Beving from Estern.
Four months after it was founded, the association had 110 members, 42 depositors (including 13 servants, maids and children), 9 members who had received loans. The balance sheet total for the year was 77,000 marks . In the first few years there were business premises in the Alter Haus Möbel Mensing, Haus Scharlau and finally in the Domhotel.
In 1927 the bank moved into its first bank building.
After 1945
In 1948, after the currency reform , the opening balance was DM 700,000 . In 1949, the company was renamed to Spar- und Kreditkasse Gescher eGmuH
On November 28, 1961, a branch was opened in the Hochmoor district. At the end of 1962, the bank moved into a new building on Katharinenstrasse. In 1968 the branch in Hochmoor got its own building.
In 1985 the main office got a new look. On May 1, 1998, the bank celebrated its 100th anniversary.
On June 7, 2001 the name was changed to Volksbank Gescher eG
