The Volksbank Helmstedt eG was a cooperative bank based in Helmstedt . The business area of the bank included the city of Helmstedt as well as parts of the surrounding area and Haldensleben .
history
The bank was founded in 1860 as the Helmstedt Citizens Loan Fund. It emerged from local commercial and agricultural cooperative banks. The aim at the time was to provide small business loans to Helmstedt's SMEs. After the transformation into a savings and advance payment association, a step was taken to set up a credit union that worked according to the principles of Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch self-help, self-responsibility and self-administration. The bank also took on the tasks of a savings bank for non-members.
On the occasion of its 125th anniversary, Volksbank Helmstedt donated the carillon at the town hall to the city of Helmstedt in 1985, which sounds four times a day. In 2010, in addition to the Lower Saxony Volksbanks Foundation, the Raiffeisenbanks Hanover and the Ostfalen Community Foundation, the bank financed the Duke Julius monument by the artist Georg Arfmann in Neumärker Strasse at the corner of Collegienstrasse in Helmstedt . In 2011 she sponsored a handicapped-accessible entry ladder for the swimmer's pool in the Birkerteich forest pool with 3,000 euros .
In 2016 the bank merged with the Volksbanken Wolfenbüttel-Salzgitter and Vechelde-Wendeburg to form Volksbank eG, Wolfenbüttel .
