Völkshagen , formerly Volkshagen , is a district of the town of Marlow in the Vorpommern-Rügen district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

location

Völkshagen is located in the far west of the Vorpommern-Rügen district on the border with the Rostock district in the west of the city of Marlow, about 15 kilometers west of the core city and 25 kilometers east-northeast of Rostock. Historically, the area belongs to Mecklenburg . The place is on the road from Bentwisch via Poppendorf to Marlow.

The streets of the village have Low German names such as Landstraat , Babendörper (Oberdorf), Unnerdborough and De Lappen . Most of the village lies along a street with the lower village in the northeast and the upper village in the southwest. Three kilometers west of Völkshagen is Blankenhagen , the church village responsible for Völkshagen.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1233 in a document from Bishop Brunward von Schwerin. The name with the ending -hagen indicates that it is a German foundation and a clearing village in a forest area. The place Volkshagen was spelled until about the end of the 19th century, before today's spelling prevailed.

Volkshagen has always been a farming village without a manor.

In 1930 there were five farm farmers, 31 Büdner, 19 cottagers, a forestry and a jug registered in Völkshagen. At that time the place had 327 inhabitants.

In 1960 an agricultural production cooperative (LPG) was founded in the village , which later became part of the LPG Gresenhorst and existed until 1991. 1974 Völkshagen was incorporated into Gresenhorst. The former municipality of Gresenhorst and thus also Völkshagen has been part of the city of Marlow since January 1, 1999.

Culture

A monument to the local residents who died in both world wars is under monument protection.

A folk dance group has been active in Völkshagen since the 750th anniversary of the town. In 1999 a village association was founded.
