history

The palatial villa, enclosed by a fenced-in park with two brick gates, was built for the landowner Franz Wollmann shortly after the outbreak of the First World War. Its isolated location, the mighty enclosure and its construction during times of need soon led to various rumors, which were further fed because Wollmann and his wife Erna were considered to be shy of contact. A gardener and caretaker, who lived in the servants' house on the edge of the park, and a relative of Wollmann's as a housekeeper worked as servants on the property. Wollmann's much older wife, who soon bore him a son, was the daughter of a wealthy Jewish goldsmith from Prague . The erection of a tomb with a stone cross on the property later caused a stir, as none of the villa's residents had died at that time. When Erna Wollmann suddenly died afterwards, rumors arose in neighboring Niemes about a poisoning, which Franz Wollmann is said to have prevented a ruinous divorce for him. However, Wollmann's wife had been ailing for some time.

The widower Franz Wollmann later married a young woman who came from a wealthy background in Prague. Soon afterwards, Wollmann's grown son, who had meanwhile entered the military as an officer, fell in love with his stepmother and they both met regularly on the Julienshöhe in the Vranovské skály . Wollmann junior was later found shot down below the Julienshöhe, a suicide was assumed and the deceased was buried next to his mother in the grave of the Wollmann villa. In Niemes, on the other hand, rumors circulated about a second murder and numerous residents viewed the Wollmann villa as a cursed place.

After the end of the Second World War, the Wollmanns fled to Germany. The abandoned villa and the park were haunted by a number of treasure hunters due to legends and rumors, but they were unsuccessful. The Volmanova vila was nationalized and served as a residential building. It fell into disrepair due to neglected repairs and its reputation as a haunted house meant that the tenants soon moved out of the villa again. After the Ralsko military training area was occupied by the Red Army , the dilapidated villa on the edge of the military area became a meeting place for Red Army soldiers in the 1970s. It burned out shortly before the Soviets withdrew. In 1991 the ruins of Volmanova vila were transferred to the Privum company as part of a privatization project together with the Pavlín farm, the Hradčany airfield and the terraced houses attached to them. Privately, only the Pavlín farm was privatized; the other properties, including Volmanova vila, were later bought back by the town of Ralsko in a foreclosure auction.

Today Volmanova vila consists of an overgrown park, overgrown ruins and a tomb with a sandstone cross.
