Occasionally, Aljochin's work on his inherited estate in Sofjino is interrupted by trips to the county seat. He had been elected justice of the peace and in this capacity he works with Luganovich, the deputy president of the district court. Aljochin gets to know and love Luganovich's around 22-year-old wife Anna. The “beautiful, kind, intelligent and charming woman” has a six-month-old child. Aljochin cannot forget Anna at home in Sofjino. In the course of time, when he visits the city again, he will be seen with pleasure in Luganovich's house. In spite of constant work in Sofjino, the Luganovichs hand over presents to poor Aljochin. He reciprocates with gifts, consisting of poultry, butter and flowers. Alyochin cannot understand why Anna came across the much older Luganovich and not him.

Aljochin says: "... we did not confess our love, but rather shyly and jealously hid it." Years later, Anna already has a second child from her husband, the strange lovers split up forever. During the farewell, both Alyochin and Anna leave the strength they had had for years. He hugs and kisses the lover. Anna hugs her face against his chest. He confesses his love to her and realizes his mistake. Alekhine did not start from “the Most High”, but kept persuading herself that love for a married woman was a sin.
