The outpost is an isolated and 1,670 m high mountain in Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica . It rises 40 km northeast of the Payer group .
It was discovered and named during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . It was named after the fact that the mountain is like an outpost on the easternmost edge of the area that the German research trip explored.
