history
The band was founded in 1992 as a Venom association under the name Gehenna. Kill , the first demo , was released in 1993. A second demo followed in 1994. The debut album was released in 1995 on Primitive Art Records under the name Hardrocker . Thereupon Micke “Hellcop” Birgersson replaced the drummer Rickard “Captain Cannibal”. After moving to Osmose Productions , the second album King of the Sidewalk was released in 1996 . This was followed by appearances, including a tour with Impaled Nazarene . Next came the 1997 album Decibel Rebel . In the following time hardly any records were released, only in 2003 the EP 10 Years of Fucked Up Behavior was released . In 2008 the band split up before they got back together in 2011. In 2014 the band, now consisting of the singer Stefan, published “Mr. Violence "Mitander, the guitarist Robert Fjällsby aka" Rob Stringburner ", the drummer Micke" Hellcop "Birgersson and the bassist Kalle Sundin aka" Charley Knuckleduster ", the EP Metal Police , whereby they got a contract with Metal Blade Records . The EP was re-released on this label in early 2015, with two songs that were also created during these recordings and six newly recorded songs from the 1990s included as a bonus. In the same year the band could be seen at the Party.San and the Eindhoven Metal Meeting . In February of the following year, the album Too Loud to Live, Too Drunk to Die followed. The recordings for this had taken place in the Studio Cobra in Stockholm with the producer Martin Eherencrona .
style
According to James Christopher Monger from Allmusic , the band plays a mixture of rock and thrash metal and can be classified between Motörhead and Venom. On metalblade.com Venom, are Bathory and Motorhead given as influences. Daniel Ekeroth wrote in his book Swedish Death Metal that the band was “not really Death Metal , more of a retro band that sounds a lot like Venom”. In his book The Heaviest Encyclopedia of Swedish Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Ever! the music as a fast and direct mixture of punk , metal and hardcore punk , with singing that is based on death metal. The band themselves call their music "Blood Metal". The lyrics would be about beer, whores, horror and violence. Musically they are very similar to the early Venom. Martin Popoff -reviewed in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 3: The Nineties album Decibel Rebel . The group plays retro thrash metal in the style of Venom and Warfare and is complemented by bands such as Sodom , Iron Angel , Living Death and Tankard . In an interview with Aoife from moshville.co.uk , Stefan Mitander stated that Bathory and other bands from Great Britain and Germany are influences from Gehennah.
In his review of King of the Sidewalk , Rock Hard editor Frank Albrecht wrote that it contained a mixture of Venom, Motörhead and Bulldozer . Most of the songs are in "a very brisk tempo with a minimum of playful precision". In a later interview with Andreas Schiffmann, also from Rock Hard , Mitander stated that Motörhead was one of the biggest influences. Thomas Kupper had reviewed Too Loud to Live, Too Drunk to Die a previous issue . The album is neither lyrically nor musically demanding. The music sounds influenced by Tank as well as by old Motörhead, Bathory and Venom.
Matthias Weckmann from Metal Hammer wrote in his review of King of the Sidewalk that music like the NWoBHM time can be heard on it and is no longer timely. Björn Friedetzky reviewed Decibel Rebel in a later edition and stated that there was music with "straight melodies, raw, grinding arcs of tension and varied sonic structures". There is also “a mixture of sweaty rock and groovy metal” and the music is comparable to that of bands like The Hellacopters , Blackshine and Entombed . Also Marc Halupczok , also from Metal Hammer , the band placed in his review for The Too Loud to Live, Too Drunk to between Venom and Motorhead, where hardly a song the three-minute mark overstepping. The songs are simple and catchy as well as “rough and unpolished”, with a singing that sounds barking and “more boozy” than ever.
