Warfare was an English NWoBHM band from Newcastle upon Tyne that was formed in 1982 and disbanded in 1993.

history

The band was formed in 1982 by drummer and singer Paul Evo, guitarist Gunner and bassist Falken. Evo had previously been with the punk / Oi! -Bands Major Accident , The Blood and Angelic Upstarts played drums. In 1984 the band released two singles and an EP. On their first single, the band covered Two Tribes by Frankie Goes to Hollywood . In the same year the group released their debut album Pure Filth , which was produced by Algy Ward of the band Tank . In the song Rose Petals Fall from Her Face took Cronos of Venom vocals and bass. Another EP was released in 1985 with Total Death . The band played a few concerts, with Ged Wolf, drummer for the British band Atomkraft , stayed on stage so that Evo could concentrate completely on the singing. The second album Metal Anarchy was produced by Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead , Motörhead's guitarist at the time, Würzel, was a guest guitarist. The album was released towards the end of the year. After that, work began on the third album. While recording, bassist left Falken Warfare so that Cronos played bass until Zlaughter joined the group as the new permanent bassist. The third album, Mayhem Fuckin 'Mayhem , was produced by Cronos, who was also a guest singer on You've Really Got Me , a cover of The Kinks ' You Really Got Me . It was followed by a single with a cover of Robert Palmer's Addicted to Love . Several concerts followed before the album was released. They interrupted the performances of other bands, including Metallica ; Warfares label Neat Records hated to see this and waited until the matter was deemed obsolete before the album was released in 1987. On the fourth album A Conflict of Hatred Mantas from Venom took part and keyboardist Lazer was a new member of the band. After the album was released in 1988, the band switched to FM Revolver Records . This label released the album Hammer Horror in 1990 , which was a tribute to the British Hammer film studios , famous for their horror films . In 1993 the band broke up. Paul Evo was a guest musician on the 1995 released album Warhead of Warhead to hear. In 2002 the compilation Metal Anarchy - The Best of Warfare was released with a selection of tracks from their releases on Neat Records.

Music genre

Warfares style has often been compared to that of the bands Tank, Motörhead and Venom, whose members each produced one of their first three albums and participated in several of their albums.

OneMetal's Chris Ward compared Burn down the King's Road from debut Pure Filth to Venom on the cover of The Clash .

Urban "Wally" Wallstrom of rock United described Metal Anarchy "was added almost live" than within three days; the album could "not be more primitive and brutal". If Poison is the glam version of the US band Spın̈al Tap , Warfare is “definitely the blueprint for the British comedy band Bad News ”. It is a "listening experience of ten different versions of 'Warriors of Ghengis Khan'". According to Ward, the song Living for the Last Days on Motörhead's Orgasmatron album , which was released that year, would not have sounded out of place. Wallstrom also found it entertaining to hear Barry McGuire sing the anti-war song Eve of Destruction on the Metal Anarchy Evo re-release . He described the style of the album as "1980s Metal / Punk / Thrash " and as a mixture of Motörhead, Tank, Venom, Raven and Bad News.

According to The Thrash Metal Guide , the music on A Conflict of Hatred developed "towards more serious Thrashs" and was reminiscent of the Canadian band Piledriver and Dark Angel's debut album , We Have Arrived . On Hammer Horror , the band introduced all pieces with orchestral passages and integrated heavy, doom- heavy riffs in the style of Celtic Frost , atmospheric, “scary” passages and with Phantom of the Opera also female vocals and “spooky” keyboard melodies; therefore The Thrash Metal Guide sees the album as a pioneer for later Doom / Gothic Metal bands.
