Bad News is a fictional heavy metal band from the United Kingdom that consisted of The Comic Strip cast . The series ran in the UK from 1982 to 2005 on Channel 4 television .

Band biography

The concept of the two episodes with Bad News is a heavy metal band that uses all common clichés. Vim Fuego (played by Adrian Edmondson) is a selfish, self-loving singer and guitarist who always pushes himself to the fore. Colin Grigson (Rik Mayall) is an absolutely untalented bass player who can hardly play a single note on his instrument. He is only tolerated in the group because he has his own PA . Den Dennis (Nigel Planer) is characterized above all by his stupidity and is a traditional metalworker who rejects all foreign influences. Spider Webb (Peter Richardson) is the group's hyperactive drummer, but he's always caught up in other things. You can also see Jennifer Saunders , who plays a journalist who goes on tour.

In 1982 the group starred in the Mockumentary Bad News Tour , which featured the group on a self-financed tour of the UK. After several incidents, the group managed to get to the famous Roxy in London and performed in front of five spectators and a dog. A real tour of Great Britain followed.

Due to its great success, another documentary was published in 1987 under the title More Bad News . The group was allowed to perform as part of this documentary at the Monsters of Rock Festival 1986. They then released a self-titled debut album and two singles produced by Brian May . In addition to some songs, a number of comedy segments are on the LPs. A cover version of Bohemian Rhapsody reached number 44 on the UK charts.

In November 1986, Bad News opened for Iron Maiden at the Hammersmith Odeon . Brian May and Jimmy Page took part as guests, each with a guitar solo . The performance was a benefit event for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. An appearance at the Reading Festival 1987 followed.

Then the group "broke up". Subsequently, two recordings with rare material were released. Officially, the group only met once again in 1991 on the occasion of a Red Nose Day of the charity Comic Relief .

Though the group is repeatedly referred to as the "British answer" to Spinal Tap , their first television appearance came two years earlier than the Spinal Tap film.
