Bulldozer is a speed and thrash metal band from Milan , Italy .

history

Bulldozer was founded in 1980 by bassist Dario Carria and Andy Panigda. A drummer was found in Erminio Gallini. After several rehearsals the members of the band had to do their military service in 1981 and so Bulldozer was put on hold for the first time. Until 1983, however, Andy Panigada was not able to make recordings. 1983 recorded the 7 '' single Fallen Angel , of which Panigada made a demo recording in advance only for the other members . Their hard Thrash Metal was mainly shaped by the bands Venom and Tank . Dario Carria and Erminio Galli had to leave the band after the release because their parents did not allow them to play at Bulldozer; At this time Don Andras came to Bulldozer as a drummer, while Alberto Contini, better known under his pseudonym AC Wild (AC stands for the initials of his real name and not for his favorite club " AC Milan " or " Anti Christ "), took over the guitar. Carria and Galli formed the band Neurodeliri. In 1984 the band also performed live for the first time.

Bulldozer's debut album The Day of Wrath was recorded in 1985. Of the original trio, only Andy Panigada was left. Tank singer Algy Ward took over the production of the very rough and heavy album and was brokered by Roadrunner Records ; King Diamond wanted this as a producer, but Bulldozer's music was too punky for him . The band was happy with the production, but Ward wasn't with the sound of the guitar. Roadrunner Records released the album worldwide, the song Insurrection of the Living Damned was also released on the compilation Speed Kills , on which Slayer , Metallica and Megadeth were also represented. Successful licensing of the album appeared in the United States, Canada and Japan, but the band could not play there because AC Wild had no ID from 1984 to 1987 due to conscientious objection .

The Final Separation , their second album, was released in 1986 and was not released by the licensing partners from the United States and Japan; Roadrunner split from Bulldozer after the release. Drummer Don Andras dropped out after the release and got married; he was replaced by Rob "Klister" Cabrini, who had played on Bulldozer before the single was released. With him the album IX: Circle of Hell was created . In 1988, original bassist Dario Carria committed suicide . The 1988 work Neurodeliri is dedicated to him and his band.

In 1990 the last band release before the split came out, a live album called Alive in Poland , which was released in the Metal Masters series. Their last concert took place in December of the same year. In 1992 a last EP called Dance Got Sick was released , which was produced by a rapper and distributed exclusively in Italy and Japan.

Alberto Contini

After the band split up, Rob Cabrini produced a demo for the Italian black metal band Mystical Fullmoon in 1997 . Alberto Contini worked with Dave Lombardo at the Vivaldi project The Meeting and has performed as AC Wild on the 2007 factory Cicatriz Black band Schizo . Andy Panigada played in the befriended band Death SS in the 1990s .

In 2006 the complete band catalog was released on the Polish label Metal Mind Productions as a box set and in 2007 as individual releases. In 2008 the live album Last Live Legend was released , followed by the album Unexpected Fate in 2009 .

Music style and lyrics

Bulldozer played Thrash Metal in the style of Motörhead , Venom and Tank in connection with initially satanic and occult themes. AC Wild, however, is not a Satanist and, according to its own account, only spoke about personal experiences in the texts; he never invoked or worshiped idols or demons and believed that evil spirits, God and angels were very powerful and it was dangerous to amuse oneself with them. From the second album on, keyboards also came into the music, but mainly served to create a dark atmosphere. On IX: Circle of Hell the original subjects gave way to pornographic texts; At that time, the pornography industry in Italy was at its peak, led by porn actress Ilona Staller , who was sung about by Bulldozer and was later elected to the Italian Parliament . Later publications contained the usual party and socially critical texts. On Neurodeliri , the band experimented with samples , symphonic elements and triggered drums after Roadrunner Records broke up with them and they no longer hoped to be successful. The band was ignored or ridiculed by the commercial press and received in magazines such as the Kerrang! or the Metal Hammer zero points, which AC Wild claims to be proud of; the income only covered the costs incurred. IX caused controversy because of the lyrics, but according to AC Wild, they were full of irony that only a few understood. The band did not provoke for fun or for the sake of posing, but to get people to think. In the underground, however, Bulldozer was praised for never being effeminate, unlike other thrash metal bands, and for always playing rough music with a morbid background. Their uncompromising style would later have a formative effect on the second Black Metal wave. Among other things, in the music of Graveland there are sounds that are reminiscent of the title song of the Neurodeliri album. In 2000 appeared tribute - split release called The Bulldozer Armageddon - Volume 1 of the bands Sabbat (Japan) and Imperial (France), 2001 followed by a second part with the bands Abigail (Japan) and Decayed (Portugal). Fenriz von Darkthrone recorded the bulldozer title Whiskey Time on his 2004 sampler Fenriz Presents… The Best of Old-School Black Metal .

On the EP Dance Got Sick produced by a rapper , the band played a mixture of metal, rap and techno , which, according to AC Wild, influenced the Japanese techno scene for two years.
