Schizo is an Italian thrash metal band from Catania that was formed in 1984.
history
The band was founded in May 1984 by Alberto Penzin and SB Reder. At the beginning they rehearsed without drums; the first drummer left the band after half a year because he couldn't keep up with their speed. The band did not have a permanent drummer until Carlo F. joined them in August 1986. With the song Nazi and Proud contained on their second demo recording Total Schizophrenia , the band met with rejection. Therefore, Penzin emphasized that the members of Schizo no Nazis or fascists were; he admitted that it wasn't a particularly clever idea, but the play had no political background and was just supposed to be brutal. People who rejected the band because of Nazi and Proud , he accused of a lack of humor. For Schizo's debut album Main Frame Collapse , as a fan of the band Death , Penzin wanted to win their singer Chuck Schuldiner for the recordings and therefore called Combat Records and then him, but Schuldiner had to cancel at the last minute due to obligations. Ingo Veleno from Necrodeath took over the vocals instead , and the album was released in 1989. Nazi and Proud were not included, according to Penzin, as the band had written better material in the meantime. In 1990 Alberto Penzin and drummer Peso von Necrodeath and Sadist dedicated themselves to their side project Mondocane and released the only album Project One with this band .
In 1990, drummer Carlo F. and singer and guitarist SB Reder left the band. As a result, the band paused for a year until guitarist Vittorio Blanco and drummer Pat Pappalardo joined the band as a replacement. In the following months they rehearsed a few pieces, which resulted in the demo Wounds (In the Clay) . In 1994 the EP Sounds of Coming Darkness was released . It was recorded by sound engineer Steve Harris at Fon Studios and mastered in London at Abbey Road Studios . In the same year, Dario Casabona joined the band as the new drummer. Shortly afterwards, the band's label had to declare its bankruptcy, which meant that the band was barely active for a long time, released little new material and rarely performed.
In April 2007, the band got back and released the album Cicatriz Black on Scarlet Records . The album was mastered by Peter in de Betou ( Marduk , Meshuggah ), the cover was designed by Lorenzo Mariani ( Mayhem , Darkthrone ). Guest musicians were Steve Sylvester ( Death SS ), AC Wild ( Bulldozer ) and Flegias (Necrodeath). The band now consisted of bassist Alberto Penzin, guitarist and singer SB Reder, drummer Dario Casabona and singer Nicola Accurso. In September Penzin left the band and was replaced in January 2008 by FT Dovorcon ( Sinoath ). In 2010 they released the album Hallucination Cramps , a concept album that dealt with schizophrenia and other mental disorders . The album was recorded in the Resonance Studio and in the Sound Empathy Studio by Riccardo Failla and Fabio Monaco . It was mixed and mastered by Graziano Manuele in the Ueickap Home Studio .
style
The band plays classic Thrash Metal and is compared to the old works of Sodom and Kreator , as well as Celtic Frost and Venom . The vocals on the debut album Main Frame Collapse were described in the Slayer as " berserk " and "manic".
