Fenriz Presents ... The Best of Old-School Black Metal is one of Fenriz compiled Black Metal - Compilation . It was released on Peaceville Records in 2004 .

Creation and publication

According to Fenriz, he had wanted to publish a compilation since the mid-1990s, but finally waited until the pieces had become historical documents of Black Metal. The selection was sometimes made quickly and sometimes took more deliberation, in which his experience and his disdain for modern bands played a role. Fenriz wanted to show with the compilation that Black Metal did not start with Emperor , Dimmu Borgir or Darkthrone .

Fenriz was not interested in sales or earnings. The press reaction to the compilation was divided. Robert Pöpperl-Berenda from Rock Hard describes it as a “praiseworthy project”, but criticizes Fenriz for having brought in some “fillers” and “current lightweights like NATTEFROST or AURA NOIR”. He sums up: “You drive better if you get the originals of the real masters in full length.” Mathieu from blackmetal.at considers Fenriz Presents… The Best of Old-School Black Metal to be a “somewhat unbalanced mixture” and “rather superfluous publication ”. Morgenstern from schwermetall.ch , however, judges: “Nevertheless, the disc has its value: Perhaps it will persuade one or two black metal newcomers not to stop at bombastic bands like Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu Borgir and to focus on the origin of the actual Black Metal reflect. "
