The Vorrtind ( Norwegian for protruding peak ) is a mountain in Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica . In Kirwanveggen, it rises from the Austvorren ridge immediately north of the Neumayer steep face .
The first aerial photographs were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers, who also named the mountain, mapped it on the basis of surveys and aerial photographs of the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952) and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) from 1958 to 1959 .
