The Vorsperre New salt is one of the two pre-dams of Pohl dam . The barrier structure is a prestressed concrete dam in the valley of the Rabenbach .

Dam wall

The dam is a straight, slim 19 m high weight dam that is anchored to the ground with tendons according to plan , a construction method that is unique in Germany. Otherwise there are only a few gravity dams that were subsequently reinforced with the help of prestressing anchors. At the level of the dam target, the dam wall has a large opening in the middle that serves as an overflow and flood relief . As a rule, the pre-lock is blocked until it is completely blocked and it is allowed to overflow. A bottom outlet is available for emergencies or for the purpose of lowering.

The second, larger Thossfell pre-barrier is built in the same way, but has 2 overflows. Both dams are dammed from the air side by the Pöhl dam. Only at low water in the dam Poehl are stilling basin to see.

Recreational sports are possible on the Pöhl reservoir up to the two pre-barriers, but not in the pre-barriers themselves.
