The Votive Church Maria Immaculate Conception is a Catholic church building in Passau .

It is in Heiliggeistgasse at the entrance to the pedestrian zone by the former Franciscan monastery in Passau . The baroque church of the Franciscan monastery, built between 1613 and 1619, was originally located here. Like the monastery, it was destroyed in the town fire of 1680, but then rebuilt. After secularization in Bavaria , it came into private hands and was used as a barn. The original high altar has been in the parish church "Heiligste Dreifaltigkeit" in Grainet since 1823 .

Bishop Heinrich von Hofstätter had the building bought back, restored from 1857 to 1864 and programmatically redesigned in line with the dogma Ineffabilis Deus announced in 1854 . On August 20, 1864, he rededicated the church as a votive church in honor of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.

A road widening was the reason that from 1963 to 1965 the nave was shortened and the church was completely redesigned by Hans Döllgast . On September 8, 1965, Bishop Simon Konrad Landersdorfer consecrated the new sacrificial altar. Since 1978 Marists have looked after the church from their monastery attached to the church, which is why it is also known as the Marist Church . Another redesign by Wolf Hirtreiter followed in 1988 .

The Votive Church has an early Baroque crucifix, a Baroque Man of Sorrows and a group of figures Coronation of the Virgin Mary by Joseph Knabl (1863). This group of figures is also one of the few surviving sculptures from the time of Bishop Hofstätter.

There is a daily exposure of the Holy of Holies in the church and there is daily confession. In addition, the church services of the Catholic student community of Passau take place in the church.
