The Vulcano di Fango Tergeste is an elliptical deep-sea mountain , specifically a mud volcano 680 m below sea level with a northwest-southeast orientation, off the Scott coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is located 46 km south-southeast of the Drygalski ice tongue and 85 km west-northwest of Franklin Island .
Scientists from an OGS Explora research expedition from OGS Trieste , carried out between 2005 and 2006, discovered it. Italian scientists named it after the asteroid (478) Tergeste .
