Vulturii Textila Lugoj was a Romanian football club from Lugoj , Timiș County . He played a season in the top Romanian league, the Divizia A .

history

Vulturii Lugoj ( German  eagle ) was founded in 1920. In the 1920s, the club played in the regional championship of the Banat before qualifying for the newly founded Divizia B (now Liga II ) in 1934 . There he competed under his new name Vulturii Textila Lugoj - named after the city's textile industry . In Divizia B, the club played in the top tier of its season in the first season, but initially missed promotion.

The year 1937 was the most successful in the club's history. First, Vulturii reached after victories against Mureşul Târgu Mureş and Sportul Studențesc Bucharest the quarter-finals of the Romanian Cup , where the club was eliminated against the first division team Juventus Bucharest . He then made it to the top division, Divizia A , in the summer of 1937 . He benefited from the fact that the league was increased from 12 to 20 teams this year, so that a third place in the season west behind Phoenix Baia Mare and Jiul Petroșani was sufficient. After only one season , however, the club rose immediately, as Divizia A was reduced to twelve clubs again in 1938.

After relegation, Vulturii could not build on the successful years. Until the interruption of the league operations due to the Second World War in 1941, the club played in Divizia B and was always able to place itself in the midfield. After resumption of game operations after the end of the war, the club rose from Divizia B and was only able to hold onto its substructure, Divizia C , for only one season, as it was dissolved at the beginning of 1949.

Vulturii Textila played in the regional leagues of Timiș County for almost twenty years before the club returned to Divizia C in 1968. There he was able to establish himself in the top group and rose to Divizia B in 1971 after a second place in the 1969/70 season. After the immediate relegation, the resurgence followed in 1973. In the 1973/74 season, Vulturii held the class, but had to move to Divizia C in 1975.

In the following years, the club missed the return to Divizia B and found itself in the 1981/82 season for the first time in the relegation battle. At the end of the 1982/83 season he had to leave the league. A year later, the rise was successful. Under his new name CSM Lugoj ( Clubul Sportiv Muncitoresc ; German  Workers' Sports Club ), he played for promotion to Divizia B in the first year. In 1986 he just missed this as runner-up behind Minerul Paroșeni . After a midfield place in 1986/87, CSM landed again in 1989 in second place behind Vagonul Arad and again missed promotion.

In 1989 the club changed its name back to Vulturii Lugoj and rose to Divizia B a year later as the first of its season, but had to relegate again in 1991. After three years in the top group and each missed promotion, Vulturii fell back into the relegation battle in the 1994/95 season. During the 1995/96 season, the club was excluded from the game and had to relegate.
