Dictionary of German winegrowers' language

The dictionary of the German winegrowing language is a specialist language dictionary on the older terminology of viticulture before its technologization and mechanization. Most of the German dialects are represented in the study area. It includes all wine-growing regions in Germany as well as the German-speaking wine-growing regions or language islands in Luxembourg , France , Austria , South Tyrol , Poland , Switzerland , Liechtenstein , the Czech and Slovak Republics, Hungary , Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Yugoslavia, Romania, Moldova , Ukraine, Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan. The aim of this dictionary is the semasiological and onomasiological representation of the dialectal vocabulary using the example of the winegrowing language .

The dictionary was supported by the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz . It was processed in Kaiserslautern in cooperation with Saarland University (project manager: Wolfgang Haubrichs , head of department: Maria Besse , employee: Roland Puhl ).

presentation

The technical dictionary is not worked out according to letters, as is traditionally the case, but individual subject areas. It is organized in strict alphabetical order according to keywords, which are also based on the New High German standard language. With a restriction to the actual technical vocabulary, a keyword stock of around 20,000 entries can be expected. The verbal and reference articles are supplemented by central articles, which create a content-related network through the presentation of specialist knowledge, synonymy and heteronymy and through references to the WKW. A list of semantics attached to the dictionary performs a similar networking function.

Material base

The dictionary is based on more than 500 tapes and cassettes from all German and formerly German-speaking wine-growing regions in Central, Southeast and Eastern Europe with the associated transcripts, which were recorded mainly in the years 1981–1985 as part of the completed Academy Project Word Atlas of Continental Germanic Vintner Terminology (WKW) were. The average duration of the interviews is four to five hours, which were carried out by several explorers - mostly on site - using a questionnaire comprising 398 questions. Publication status

A total of four different versions are available on CD-ROM and DVD. At the end of the project period, the "Dictionary of German Wine-growing Language (WDW)" will be available as a printed version with an accompanying digital edition.
