W24 (also Wien24 or Info-Kanal Wien ) is a regional cable television broadcaster from Vienna and has been on air as a Viennese information channel in the Vienna cable network UPC Telekabel and on the Internet since March 10, 2005 . A relaunch of the station was presented to the public on April 11, 2012 in the Odeontheater in Vienna .

program

W24 is the only cable broadcaster owned by the City of Vienna to offer information around the clock. In addition to current information on topics relevant to Vienna, the station also broadcasts specially produced news. From 6 a.m. onwards, W24 brings together 15-minute blocks that provide concentrated information on what is happening in the city. The program also includes live talks and TV reports on the subjects of leisure, culture, communal information, business and sport. Wednesday evening is dedicated to W24 Spezial, where weekly documentaries are shown and then a group of experts discusses the main topic.

During the night, W24 offers special formats that present Vienna and its facilities from a completely different perspective. Thus, in the show Nachtschiene, trips are made by underground or tram. Filmed from the driver's cab and shown at night. In addition, you can also watch bicycle or horse-drawn carriage rides through Vienna or flights over Vienna. Furthermore, tours through Vienna's museums are shown at night.

In spring 2012 the city channel was relaunched. W24 focuses on events in Vienna. The transmission scheme is changed. Josef Broukal , Michael Knöppel and Oliver Feicht will guide you through the different formats .

In spring 2013, the station began to intensify its advertising activities and for the first time presented a Vienna-wide poster campaign.

In September 2013, W24 founded the television and content marketer R9 Regionales Fernsehen Österreich with nine other Austrian regional channels , which offers the booking of national advertising blocks for all federal states.

W24 reaches 44,000 viewers per day in the Vienna cable network UPC Telekabel . This corresponds to a market share of 4.5 percent on this reception channel.

Additional services

W24 offers its program as a live stream on the Internet. The city broadcaster's internet portal is also an extensive on-demand platform; all broadcast programs and in-house formats are offered online at. The service is supplemented by the W24 teletext. The long-standing information portal wienweb.at was merged with the information portal www.w24.at on December 19, 2011 .
