The radio station cooperates with ABC News Radio , the former owner of the station. Today WABC belongs to Cumulus Media , number 2 in the US radio market. The biggest competitor in the segment of traditional talk radio stations on medium wave in New York WOR-AM of iHeartMedia . WABC can be received on the medium wave frequency 770 k Hz .

history

Two years after it started broadcasting in 1921, the station, which was still known as WJZ at the time, moved in May 1923 from a small studio in New Jersey to a larger one in the US state of New York .

As the "flagship" of the American Broadcasting Company , the station's callsign was changed to WABC in 1953 . With “The Sound of New York” (German: The New Yorker Sound ) - also known as “Top 40” in common parlance - WABC introduced an innovative format ten years later. The station's audience increased to over five million weekly listeners by 1976.

On May 10, 1982, WABC changed its broadcast format from music to talk radio .

In February 1996 , WABC and The Walt Disney Company merged .

The conservative talk radio host Sean Hannity has been hosting his show on WABC since 2006 .
